Apartments to rent valletta malta12/22/2023 It’s best to apply for a residence permit in your home country before moving to Portugal. If you become a Portuguese resident, which isn’t too hard, you can get access to public hospitals and health centres. What’s more, at only 92,000 square kilometres Portugal is easy to explore by car. It also has an incredible history, fantastic climate and a relatively low cost of living. We really appreciated this personal approach. As European countries go, Portugal is one of the friendliest. They clearly get much satisfaction from ensuring a warm welcome. They keep in touch and do their best to see that their visitors enjoy their stay. The apartment owners, Patrick and Diane welcome their guests personally to show them round the apartment and provide some ideas about what to see in Valletta. The arts centre in the historic St James Cavalier is a few minutes walk away and it is worth checking out the cinema programme. The location is great for the sights of Valletta, which are all within easy walking distance. The apartment is in a traditional Valletta street with Maltese wooden balconies, in a sympathetically renovated building with a modern lift. It was quite special watching the local New Year celebrations In this setting. The shared rooftop terrace offers wonderful views of the harbour and the historic buildings nearby. It is very comfortable, really well equipped, with, for example, a cooker with a full oven and a washing machine. If you are making your own way the web directions are inadequate - ask for better directions and the house number! We found Malta a very realistically priced Eurozone country to visit (April 2012) and the quality of restaurants in Valletta very good - the Maltese like their food! Top tips - book the transfer offered on the website from the airport to Old Mint - the airport taxi we used was useless and abandoned us a kilometre away from the building. Ideal for couples+one or parents and two smaller kids wanting a fab central apartment to explore the island, but not really ideal for four hefty adults or those with mobility problems. Why four stars from us? Plus points for the apartment (very helpful and friendly check-in-out / location / furnishings / layout on main floor) far outweighed the minus points (slightly damp smell when we arrived / squeaky bed / second bedroom which we didn't use anyway). Good decision - we made great use of the outdoor space! As a couple travelling this time without friends or family we found the accommodation to be perfect for our needs however, we agree with other comments regarding the second bedroom - smallish / dark / staircase / etc. We selected The Old Mint Apartments primarily because of the location and the fact we like modernised historic buildings - but the roof terrace and separate balcony swayed our decision to splash out and rent the Penthouse. “Hidden Gem in Valletta” We selected this location because we wanted a self-catering city centre apartment (as opposed to one of Malta's noisy-clubby-seaside resorts) - and within easy walk of the bus station (as we didn't want the hassle of hiring a car).
